2021 Immunization Update


 
This presentation counts towards Immunization certification maintenance (up to 3.25 CPE hours available). 
 

Activity Description
 
This program consists of 2 videos and downloadable resources in PDF format.  To begin, take the ungraded pre-test in a module below.  Review the module's video and handout(s), then complete the post-test ( > 70% within 5 attempts) and evaluation. CPE credit will automatically upload to CPE Monitor (allow 7 days). 
 

 
About the Faculty

Sharon Rush received her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree in 1986. She practiced as a staff pharmacist, pharmacy manager, Central Texas Immunization Coordinator, and PGY-1 residency preceptor during her 23 years with a large community pharmacy chain. She joined the faculty of the Division of Pharmacy Practice at The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy in July 2010. She is the Community Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience Coordinator for the college and the Austin/Temple/Waco Community Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience Coordinator for the fourth year professional students.
 
Professor Rush has been involved with direct patient care programs for many years, such as pharmacy-based immunizations, health screenings, Medication Therapy Management, and Disease State Management. She is a certified instructor for the APhA Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery certificate program for both pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, the APhA Medication Therapy Management certificate program, and the NACDS Point of Care certificate program. All PharmD students at UT earn their immunization and medication therapy management certificates under her instruction.
 
She provides the annual continuing education Immunization Update for the Texas Pharmacy Association and The University of Texas College of Pharmacy Pharmacy Practice Seminar. She is a member of several national, state and local professional organizations and serves on the Texas Pharmacy Association’s Public Policy Council and Association Affairs Council. She recently was selected to serve on APhA-APPM’s Immunizing Pharmacists SIG Communications committee and the American Academy of Colleges of Pharmacy Council of Faculties Professional Identity Formation task force.

Continuing Education Credit
 
The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.  This online activity is approved for 0.325 CEUs (3.25 contact hours) of continuing education credit. In order to receive 3.25 contact hours of CE credit, the participant must complete the online pre-tests (ungraded), watch the included videos in their entirety, pass the online post-tests ( > 70% within 5 attempts), and complete the online evaluations.  Upon successful completion of modules and course evaluations, continuing pharmacy education credits will automatically be uploaded to CPE Monitor (allow 7 days). 
Please make sure NABP profile ID and date of birth (month/year) are entered correctly under learner's profile in this system.

  • Discuss the status of COVID-19 with regards to immunizations and variants in U.S.
  • Examine the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the status of non-covid vaccinations/preventable diseases.
  • Discuss vaccine hesitancy and special populations who may not wish to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and the impact/forecast on reaching herd immunity in the U.S.
