The  New Preceptor Orientation for UT College of Pharmacy Preceptors provides basic preceptor information for new UT College of Pharmacy Preceptors, and refresher information for experienced UT Austin preceptors.  This activity covers essential components of the UT Austin Preceptor role and responsibilities including understanding the various reporting systems used by the College, how to set up orientations based on UT Austin requirements, and how to report and work with students who are not fulfilling their responsibilities.

This activity is meant to provide strategies in working with underperforming or failing pharmacy students in the rotation experience.  Participants will be able to identify common reasons that students underperform on rotation, list common reasons that preceptors are hesitant to fail students who underperform by differentiating cognitive vs. non-cognitive student issues in assessing, list steps in dealing with a failing student, and develop processes for helping students succeed.
