• 2016 Sterile Compounding Update


ABOUT THE COURSE:
The IV Update course is designed for Sterile Compounding (IV) certified pharmacists who wish to earn 2 hours of CE credit to expand their professional skills and expertise in areas relating to sterile intravenous admixtures.  This year’s course will focus on updates in hazardous Drug Handling and Compounding.
 
This program was originally offered as a Pre-Seminar program of the Pharmacy Practice Seminar (PPS) event held on September 23, 2016 in Austin, Texas.
Registration for the IV Update is open to any pharmacist.

IV CERTIFICATION MAINTENANCE:
As of September 2015, the new TSBP rule (291.133) requires specific CE to maintain IV certification in Texas.  This 2 hour activity may be used towards this new requirement.

4 PART PROGRAM:
Upon purchase and registration for the overall activity, videos along with content slides and links to the post-tests and evaluations for each activity will appear in the activity tabs below.  In order to receive credit, participants must watch all 4 videos in their entirety, review course materials, and complete post-tests and evaluations.  

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
  • State practices that should be used to prevent errors when handling and compounding hazardous preparations.
  • Describe compounding techniques, supplies, and equipment that should be used for compounding hazardous preparations.
  • Explain how to draw a specified volume of diluent utilizing a closed system transfer device.

Requirements for CE Credit

The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.  This online activity is approved for a total 0.2 CEUs (2.00 contact hours) of continuing education credit.  In order to receive all 2.00 contact hours of CE credit, the participant must watch all videos in their entirety (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4), complete the online post-tests, and complete the online evaluation after the completion of video 4, its post-test, and the evaluation.
