2019 Immunization Update


3-Hour Immunization Update
About:  The online Immunization Update is designed for pharmacists who are already certified to administer immunizations and vaccinations, and who need to obtain their TSBP-required 3 hours of immunization-focused CE credit to maintain their certification.  The goal is to provide attendees with relevant clinical and practice information, in order to keep abreast of current immunization practice information.
Activity Layout and Instructions
This activity includes 3 hours of content divided into 7 mini sections by immunization topic.  In oreder to qualify for CPE credit, the learner must complete each video, then complete the overall evaluation that follows the post-test of module 7.  Each post-test for each module includes only 2 to 3 questions that reinforce the most important concepts for each module.  The activity is designed so that one can move from topic to topic based on practice need.  However, learners do need to complete all videos in order to received CPE credit.
Objectives
  • Identify changes or updates to the January 2019 immunization schedules for persons aged 0 through 18 years and adults.
  • Evaluate the most current Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendations.
  • Evaluate various questions that have been submitted to the CDC website as well as self-submitted by participants.
  • Determine appropriate answers for the questions that commonly arise and discuss related counseling points and key considerations.
  • Discuss vaccines under investigation or in the pipelines
  • Review proper administration techniques, adverse events management and documentation.
Faculty
Sharon Rush, R.Ph., Clinical Associate Professor of Health Outcomes & Pharmacy Practice, The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy:  Professor Rush received her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree in 1986.  She practiced as a staff pharmacist, pharmacy manager, Central Texas Immunization Coordinator and PGY1 residency preceptor during her 23 years with a large community pharmacy chain and continues to practice with the company on a reduced scale.  She has been involved with different patient care programs such as pharmacy-based immunizations, health screenings, Medication Therapy Management and Disease State Management.  She is a certified instructor for the APhA “Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery” certification program, the APhA “Delivering Medication Therapy Management Services in the Community” certificate program, the NACDS Point of Care certificate program and the American Heart Association Basic Life Support course.  She provides the annual 3-hour continuing education Immunization Update for the Texas Pharmacy Association and the University of Texas College of Pharmacy Pharmacy Practice Seminar.

Requirements for CE Credit

The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This activity is approved for 3 contact hours (0.3 CEUs) of continuing education credit. In order to receive 3 hours of CE credit, the learner must all 7 modules, complete the post-tests for each module, and then complete the online evaluation following the final post-test.  CPE credit will be issued through CPE Monitor approximately 2 to 3 business days upon successful completion of the online evaluation.
