NOTE: The content of this activity was developed specifically for UT Austin Preceptors. However, any preceptors in the state of Texas are welcome to take this course if the content is deemed appropriate.

This activity provides preceptor training on how to provide effective and critical feedback to students. The instructors provide information and propose strategies on how to identify characteristics of high, middle, and low performing students; provide an outline on the crucial converstation methodology for sharing tough or difficult messages to students; cover steps for developing strategies for better communication in difficult situations; and provide video examples of mock critical conversations along with analysis.

The activity is presented live by W. Renee Acosta, MS, R.Ph., Veronica Young, PharmD, MPH and Jennifer Ridings-Myhra, M.Ed., R.Ph. at The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy’s annual Preceptor Orientation and Training Conference, held each August. Although the live session was designed for Texas Preceptors, the information is appropriate for non-Texas preceptors as well.

For Texas Preceptors: This CPE activitiy counts towards the Texas State Board of Pharmacy Liscensing requirements for Preceptors of "three hours of pharmacist preceptor training provided by an ACPE approved provider within the pharmacist's current license renewal period." (TX Administrative Code Title 22, Part 15, Chapter 283, rule 283.6, Section 3, B, II, ii)

This program includes a one-hour mp4 format video of the live conference presentation recorded on August 3, 2019, and a PDF copy of the presentation slides.

This online activity is approved for 0.10 CEUs (1.0 contact hours) of continuing education credit. In order to receive 1.0 contact hours of CE credit, the participant must watch the video in its entirety, review downloadable PDF copies of presentation slides, complete the online post-test, and complete the online evaluation.
