66th Pharmacy Practice Seminar • PPS • 2018


Every September, we invite you to join over 400 pharmacists and pharmacy technicians for our annual CPE seminar. This year’s event will be held at the DoubleTree North Hotel in Austin, Texas on Saturday and Sunday, September 29 and 30, 2018.  The program provides participants with tools and knowledge that can be immediately applied to patient care upon return to practice. The seminar offers up to 15 contact hours of ACPE-accredited pharmacy continuing education.

If payment of registration was made by check, please allow up to 60 days for refund. Refunds will not be made for cancellations received after September 2, 2016; however, substitute registrants will be accepted. ••••• Accreditation ••••• You have only 60 days from the session completion to received your CE hours. Requests made for CE hours after the 60 day limit can not be honored or per ACPE guidlines. Avoid this by ensuring your NABP# and D.O.B. are correct in your profile, complete the post session evaluations, and check you NABP profile to ensure you receive the hours. Requirements for CE Credit

The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.  This two-day activity is approved for 1.5 CEUs (15 contact hours) of continuing education credit.  In order to receive 15 contact hours of CE credit, the participant must attend/participate in all sessions of the program, return their completed Record of Attendance Form at the conclusion of the program, and return to this website to complete the evaluation.

 
MUST COMPLETE CPE EVALUATIONS BY November 16, 2018, OR FORFEIT CPE CREDIT
As of May 1, 2014, ACPE has placed a strict limit of 60 days to complete the CPE requirements for credit for all pharmacy continuing education programs.  
Pharmacists who fail to complete the requirements for credit for this program will forfeit CPE credit for this activity.   Per rule set by ACPE, The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy will not be able to process credit after the 60 day deadline, and will not be able to route credits to the NABP eProfiles.  This includes error caused by incorrect NABP#'s and/or Date of Birth on you profile.
Please ensure your information is correct and up-to-date prior to completing the evaluations.  It is up to the conference attendee to ensure their credits have been received.

Objectives

  • • List the trends in opioid distributions that the DEA were able to identify during the height of the epidemic.
  • • Identify measures the DEA could formerly take to hamper the distribution of dangerous quantities of opioids to pharmacies, and ultimately to patients
  • • Explain how Congress has intervened with the DEA being able to take action against large distribution companies, despite the documented risk to public health.

Brief Bio : James A. Karboski, Pharm.D. is a Clinical Associate Professor of Pharmacy and Assistant Division Head in the Health Outcomes and Pharmacy Practice Division at the University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy. He holds the Neill B. Walsdorf Fellowship in Pharmacy. Dr. Karboski earned a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from Washington State University in 1985. Subsequently, Dr. Karboski earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio in 1987. He continued his training in Texas where he completed a Clinical Sciences Fellowship in Pharmacokinetics at the University of Texas at Austin.
