Opioid Use Disorder: A Collaborative Treatment Approach

ABOUT: This course is designed to heighten awareness among healthcare professionals regarding the effects of the opioid epidemic, to enhance knowledge of the pharmacological and behavioral interventions used for treatment/recovery of opioid use disorder (OUD), and to increase motivation to provide access to medication-assisted recovery. The activity will be delivered from a multidisciplinary, team-based perspective, to better explain the successful outcomes that are attainable when a variety of healthcare professionals contribute to the patient-centered treatment process. With greater knowledge and expanded perspective of the treatment/recovery process, pharmacists will be prepared to actively engage in the fight against the opioid epidemic. This activity will provide attendees with clinical information that is relevant and easily applied in practice.

FORMAT: Before attending the LIVE activity, two brief assessments must be completed (not graded):

Module 1: Pre-Course Assessment of Attitudes
Module 2: Pre-Course Assessment of Knowledge

The LIVE activity will be divided into four sections and each section will include didactic and interactive case-based learning. There will also be ample time built into the activity for participants to actively engage with the expert faculty practitioners, whose experience comes directly from their day-to-day practice as members of the multidisciplinary treatment team for patients recovering from opioid use disorder. The faculty instructors are accustomed to treating the opioid epidemic at “ground zero” and they will share their knowledge and first-hand experiences to help other practitioners who also wish to take an active role in the opioid epidemic. The live activity will conclude with an online Overall Evaluation, which must be completed to earn 3.5 hours of CE credit.

REGISTRATION: Registration for this program is FREE! Registration/attendance is separate from PPS or any other Pre-PPS program. Please remember to have your NABP E-Profile ID to complete your registration.

CANCELLATIONS & NO-SHOWS: Please call our office to cancel registration before September 1 if you no longer plan to attend. Those who are registered but do not show up for the event will be billed $25 for program materials (if UT CPE not notified before September 1).

Development and availability of this course is supported in part by the Texas Health & Human Services Commission via an educational grant. A variety of survey data will be collected from participants to ensure programmatic quality and to assess effectiveness of curriculum. The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This activity is approved for 3.5 contact hours (0.35 CEUs) of continuing education credit. In order to receive the full 3.5 hours of CE credit, the attendee must complete the two pre-course assessments (Modules 1 & 2), participate in all sessions of the LIVE activity, and complete the overall online evaluation at the end of the program. CPE credit will be issued through CPE Monitor approximately 2 to 3 business days upon successful completion of the online evaluation.
