M. Elizabeth Deel Flores is a Board Certified Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and the Assistant Clinical Director of Austin State Hospital (ASH). She has been a valued member of the ASH family since October 2015. Clinically, Elizabeth specializes in providing inpatient mental health care to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Administratively, she serves as a member of the executive leadership team and oversees many administrative functions of the Medical Staff department. She supervises the departments of Social Work, Psychology, Education and Rehabilitation, Nutrition, and Rehabilitation Therapy. In her current role, she serves on several committees, including chairing the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee at Austin State Hospital and serving as a medical staff representative on the statewide Pharmacy and Therapeutics Subcommittee for Texas State Hospitals. Elizabeth graduated with a B.S. with honors in biology from the University of Kentucky and earned an M.S. in cellular and molecular neuroscience from Vanderbilt University and an MSN in psychiatric and mental health nursing from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing. As a former scientist, she gets very jazzed about data and works with her teams to incorporate evidence-based interventions both clinically and administratively.  Elizabeth enjoys watching stand-up comedy, reading interesting fiction, visiting the mountains, and going on family adventures with her husband and three-year-old daughter. Note: As doing literally anything with a 3-year-old child could be euphemized as an “adventure,” the term is being used very lightly here.
