2-Hour Sterile Compounding Update (6:30 - 9:00pm) • Friday, Sept 28

The Sterile Compounding Update course is designed for IV certified pharmacists and technicians, who wish to earn 2 hours of CE credit to expand their professional skills and expertise in areas relating to sterile intravenous admixtures.

NOTE: As of September 2015, the new TSBP rule (291.133) required specific CE to maintain Sterile Compounding (IV) certification. This course may be used towards your required CE hours.

The Sterile Compounding Update (formerly named IV Update) is an application-based activity designed for IV-certified pharmacists and technicians, who wish to earn 2 hours of sterile compounding CE credit. The course aims to expand participants’ professional skills and expertise in areas relating to sterile compounding, while staying abreast current compounding practice trends.

Objectives

Identify changes in USP Chapter <797> 2015 proposal. Identify the role sterile compounding compliance has in preventing Healthcare Associated Infections (HIAs).
Discuss the Quality Assurance Monitoring requirement.
Recommend best practices in USP <797> compliance for compounding personnel.
Discuss violations reported by the TSBP and FDA during inspections of facilities engaged in sterile compounding.
Identify violations as if you are the inspector.
Recommend possible solutions for case examples of violations.
Formulate strategies to help prevent deficiencies.
