Continuing Education Credit
The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This online activity is approved for 0.30 CEUs (3.00 contact hours) of continuing education credit. To receive 3.00 contact hours of CE credit, the participant must watch the included video in its entirety, pass the online post-test ( >70% within 5 attempts), and complete the online evaluation. Upon successfully completing the course evaluation, the continuing pharmacy education credits will automatically be uploaded to CPE Monitor (allow 3-7 days).

About the Speakers
Marisa S. P. Toups, M.D.
Psychiatrist/Owner, Singularity Psychiatry and Mental Health
Affiliate Assistant Professor
UT Southwestern Medical School Department of Psychiatry

Dr. Toups is a board-certified psychiatrist and specialist in treatment-resistant depression. After medical school, she completed psychiatric training, including a specialty fellowship focusing on the study of treatment outcomes for Major Depressive Disorder, at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX. As faculty at UT Southwestern and UT Austin Dell Medical School, she studied the role of immunity in major depression and served as an investigator in numerous clinical trials. She has taught evidence-based medicine to psychiatry residents, is the co-author of an award-winning journal club curriculum, and co-hosts a related podcast, the Yeah, No Journal Club. She now runs her practice, Singularity Psychiatry and Mental Health, where she provides expert psychiatric care for patients with complex depression.

Nicholas Ortiz, M.D.
Assistant Professor of Psychiatry
The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School

Nicholas Ortiz, M.D., is a board-certified psychiatrist at UT Health Austin’s Mulva Clinic for the Neurosciences. Additionally, Dr. Ortiz is an assistant professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Psychiatry. He serves on the Medical Executive Council for Ascension Seton Shoal Creek and as the Clinical Director of Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) for Ascension Seton Medical Center. Dr. Ortiz is also the clinical director of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) for UT Health Austin. Dr. Ortiz completed a residency in psychiatry at The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School. He received his medical degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio and earned his bachelor’s in science from Southwestern University. Dr. Ortiz’s clinical interests include Neurostimulation, Major Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, and inpatient psychiatry. He is a prolific instructor at Dell Med and also participates in research and publications.

About the Speakers 
Tawny Smith, Pharm.D., BCPP
Associate Professor of Psychiatry
The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School
After graduating with her Pharm.D. degree, Dr. Smith completed a psychiatric pharmacy residency and clinical sciences fellowship in mental health outcomes at The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy. She is a board-certified psychiatric pharmacist currently serving as an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences for The University of Texas at Austin (UT), Dell Medical School. She also maintains an adjunct faculty appointment with the UT College of Pharmacy. She has outpatient practices at UT Health Austin Women's Reproductive Mental Health and Bipolar clinics and serves as a consultant for the Perinatal Psychiatry Access Network (PeriPAN). She is also the director of the psychopharmacology consult service at Ascension Seton Shoal Creek. She serves as one of the core faculty for the DMS psychiatry residency program where she has been awarded several teaching awards. She has delivered numerous educational presentations to the community and other health professionals at national and international conferences throughout her career. She has over 85 published abstracts, peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in the area of psychiatric pharmacy. She is an active member of the American Association for Psychiatric Pharmacists (AAPP) and is currently the chair for the Continuing Professional Development committee. She remains active in her community and serves on the Board of Directors for both the Austin Clubhouse, as well as the Hill Country chapter of the National Charity League.

Pediatric Depression Update

M. Lynn Crismon, Pharm.D., FCCP, DABCP, BCPP
Professor of Pharmacy & Psychiatry
The University of Texas at Austin
M. Lynn Crismon is a Professor of Pharmacy and Psychiatry at The University of Texas at Austin. He is the former Behrens Centennial Professor of Pharmacy and past Dean and James T. Doluisio Regents Chair of the College of Pharmacy. He is board-certified in psychiatric pharmacy and a Diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Pharmacology. His research has focused on improving the pharmacotherapy of severe mental disorders and mental health outcomes research. He has over 270 publications and 210 abstracts. Since 2004, he has co-led the development and the updating of the Psychotropic medication utilization parameters for children and youth in Texas Public Behavioral Health. He is a founding steering committee member, faculty member, and coach in the REACH Institute’s Patient-Centered Mental Health in Pediatric Primary Care Mini-fellowship. He served as a member of the National Academy of Medicine Committee that developed Taking Action Against Clinician Burnout: A Systems Approach to Professional Well-Being, which received the 2021 James A. Hamilton Book Award from the American College of Healthcare Executives.
